Towards the beginning of last week I said lots of goodbyes to members and investigators. Its interesting leaving an area I have grown so attached to. Still, its a new and growing experience. I am excited to be in Virginia Beach and get the work going.
In my efforts to consume my stores of food from my last area, I ate most of a can of Bush's Baked Beans (2 out of the 3 cups in the can). They are good, but after a while they can get a bit tedious to keep shoving down. On Wednesday I went to a place called Panera. Its pretty good, but way too expensive if it weren't for Elder Gill's gift card.
Among things that happened before transfers, the AC in our apartment started leaking. That was fun. Random puddles of water started forming on the floor. Luckily it didn't interfere with anyones stuff. It just got annoying accidentally stepping in puddles. We got it fixed though as soon as we realized that there was really some sort of leak.
As I have already made apparent, I have been transferred to Virginia Beach (the Sandbridge area). The area covers all the way down to Knotts Island, NC. Our area also includes a pretty big military base (which we live pretty close to). A local term for the constant jet-noise is "the sound of freedom". As such, our ward is very transient. It will be an interesting experience.
The night we arrived we were greeted to the area by a tornado warning. The storm was pretty intense and a funnel cloud was spotted 2 miles from us. There was a ton of rain, but we were inside all night, so it didn't bother us. The weather here seems to be cooler than Charlottesville was though, at least for now, so that's always good.
The first people we talked to in the area ended up being a part-member family that we are now teaching. We have also had some good success in other respects. The Zone Leaders were apparently impressed with how many lessons we have been able to teach since we arrived. I think this area will turn around with the shotgunning of me and Elder Bangerter.
So, in this area we apparently have a dinner calendar. As such, we get fed most nights. It will be a huge turn-around from my previous areas. We had an appointment with the bishops family on Friday. Interestingly enough I found that the bishops daughter is related through the same Warkentin's that started the Warkentin House.
Now for my companion. His name is Elder Bangerter. He lives 5 or so minutes from my home, in South Jordan, UT. He went to Bingham. His grandfather is the one Bangerter Highway was named after.
So, things are going well for me. I look forward to working in this area. It will be a truly good experience.
