shopping last Monday, one of our neighbors from our apartment building
approached us and expressed interest in learning from us. That was
pretty cool. I also made more Sweet Potato Pie. Later that night I
worked on a recent converts laptop. Thats the same laptop I installed
Ubuntu Linux on the week before. I got both the wired and wireless
internet connection working. The Windows installation it had wouldn't
even detect that it had an ethernet card, then the Mini NT operating
system I tried using wouldn't detect wireless capability. So, I was
excited to get it working with Linux. On Tuesday, we had a 10 AM
breakfast with a member and I fixed a few problems they were having
with their computer. They had some malware that would recursively hide
all the files on the system, so I hand removed that, as virus scanners
didn't detect it, and fixed all the files. Later that night, my
companion played basketball at the church with a lot of non-members.
We then went to a members house for an investigator appointment, but
the investigator never showed up, so they fed us Mexican bread and hot
chocolate, then sent us home with tamales. On Wednesday, we had a
Mission Conference up in Newport News, VA. The Area Mental Health
Advisers (in charge of the whole north-eastern part of the United
States and half of Canada), came and gave us some really good
instruction about mental health, avoiding stress and anxiety, and
overcoming sin. They taught about some of the more touchy subjects.
Later that night, we met with a member of our ward that has been
fighting cancer for a while. They insisted on sending us home with a
lot of food. On Thursday, my Branch Mission Leader from Currituck fed
us lunch and took us to the insurance office he owns and we started
teaching one of his friends. On Friday, we had an excellent Zone
Meeting, attended by our Stake President and High Counselor over
missionary work in the stake. It was a good meeting. I also got some
alternative language study materials that I had ordered through the
mission to study Russian and German. After the meeting, our Ward Clerk
took us to a place Called Bob-B-Q, which was pretty good. On Saturday,
after an appointment with one of our Latino investigators, he insisted
on taking us to eat at Dragon Buffet. Later that night, we had dinner
with a part-member family and my companion won a chess game. After
that we went home and I read through the flight-plans and travel info
for my departure from the mission, which is coming all too quickly. On
Sunday, we finally had some ice and a light dusting of snow in the
allies, edges, and cracks of the sidewalks. It really wasn't much, but
its a first snow for the winter in this part of North Carolina. After
church, we attended a baptism for a child-of-record. Later that night
we gave a blessing of health and made contact with a really awesome
couple that attended the recent funeral. So, this has been a pretty
good and pretty full week. I hope you all have a great coming week.
